Annual reports
Submitting an annual report is mandatory for all Estonian accounting entities, and the report must be submitted once per fiscal year while the entity is operational. As the number of legal entities operating in Estonia has been growing each year, the number of reporting entities has been increasing at the same rate.
The length of a legal entity's financial year is usually 12 months, most commonly aligning with the calendar year.
The annual report consists of a financial statements and an activity report. The exact content depends on the type and size of the legal entity.
Larger businesses are required to submit audited reports. The obligation for auditing arises for businesses whose turnover, assets, or average number of employees during the financial year exceed the specified threshold.
Reports can be submitted electronically through the e-Business Register or via a notary.
NB! We would like to point out that the graph below shows the submission percentages only for legal entities currently entered in the register and does not contain the statistics of associations that have been deleted from the register to date (therefore, the submission percentages of previous periods will change compared to the deadline for submitting the report, if associations are deleted from the register).
For most legal entities (98.6% in the 2023 financial year), the financial year ends on the last day of the calendar year and the deadline for submitting their reports is the last day of June of the following year.
The graph below shows that a significant portion of legal entities submit their reports in the last month. Over the past 10 years, 35% of all submitted reports were submitted in the month of June.
The most popular date for report submission is the last day of June. On June 30, 2023, a remarkable 8.3% of all reports for the 2022 financial year were submitted on a single 24 hour periood.
